Position overview

The Central Equipment & Courier Service (CECS) is a small team responsible for the distribution, maintenance, and record management of various forms of clinical equipment, as well as couriering Pathology specimens and blood products across the Canberra Hospital & Health Services campus using a clinical work device (DHR Rover Device) and Territory Radio Network (TRN) system.

Under the direction of the CECS Team Leaders and/or Operations Manager the Equipment & Courier Officer will work closely with a dedicated and skilled team to deliver a safe, efficient, and effective service for inpatients and associated clients at The Canberra Hospital.

Key Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

  1. Respond and attend to all requests with the priority being given to Massive Transfusion Protocol (MTP) and Operating Theatres Blood Product deliveries.
  2. Prioritise the processing of work in order of urgency under task delegation and supervision and monitor and/or enter text and data into a computer using keyboard skills.
  3. Distribute and/or deliver the following on a routine and urgent basis across the Canberra Hospital campus and the National Capital Private Hospital:
    • Blood and blood products.
    • Blood cultures, Specimen Containers and Pathology reports.
    • Patient equipment, including but not limited to: Pressure Care Equipment, Intravenous Infusion Pumps, Falls Prevention Equipment and Bariatric Equipment.
  4. Collection of the following on a routine and urgent basis across the Canberra Hospital campus and the National Capital Private Hospital:
    • Pathology Specimens.
    • Unused or partially transfused blood and/or blood products.
    • Patient equipment, including but not limited to: Pressure Care Equipment, Intravenous Infusion Pumps, Falls Prevention Equipment and Bariatric Equipment.
  5. Perform cleaning, minor maintenance and preparation of medical equipment to be delivered across Canberra Hospital Campus, including but not limited to:
    • Intravenous Infusion Pumps.
    • Pressure Care Equipment, such as pressure relieving air mattresses.
    • Other Patient Equipment.
  6. Participate in quality improvement projects, unit training and CHS mandatory training as required, including participation in rotational roster patterns, including evening, weekend, and public holiday shift work.
  7. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications and Experience

Specific qualifications and experience includes, but is not limited to, the following.

Essential

  • The successful applicant will need to participate in rotational roster patterns, including evening, weekend, and public holiday shift work.
  • Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
