Position overview
Women, Youth and Children Community Health Programs delivers a range of health care community-based services to women, children, young people, and families. These services include support, education, and information; counselling, assessment and screening; early identification and referral; and the delivery of public health programs. Services are delivered within a multidisciplinary context if not by a multidisciplinary team.
Enhanced Health Services (EHS) includes the Early Family Support Service (EFSS), Enhanced Child Health Service (ECHS), Developmental Paediatric and Child Protection Medical Service (DPCPMS), and Women’s Health Service (WHS).
Physiotherapists work within the Early Family Support Counselling and Physiotherapy (EFSCP) Team in the Early Family Support Service to provide services for women three to twelve months postnatal, as well as to infants under twelve months of age for a range of concerns including torticollis, neck issues and positional talipes. Services provided are evidence based, collaborative, and holistic, with acknowledgment of the importance of sensitive, trauma informed care.
This is a rewarding and exciting position within a vibrant service that is suitable for a dynamic, flexible, and skilled physiotherapist with a solid background in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, women’s health, and with paediatric experience particularly in the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal and developmental issues for babies, who is committed to working in a multidisciplinary team to deliver care to women and infants.
Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
You will:
- Provide a high level of appropriate, skilled clinical physiotherapy assessment and interventions across a range of clinical areas. Exercise independent professional judgement in solving problems and managing cases where principles, procedures and techniques require expansion, adaptation, or modification. This includes liaising with carers and other service providers to facilitate effective service provision.
- Lead the planning, development and evaluation of client services and programs to ensure the delivery of high-level customer services that contribute to and enhance health outcomes.
- Provide clinical leadership for physiotherapists within WYCCHP, including coordination and provision of clinical supervision, continuing professional development, performance management, and/or teaching and training to other staff and students.
- Consult and liaise with services and teams within EHS, across WYCCHP, and externally across ACT and NSW organisations, to coordinate the delivery of seamless, holistic care and interventions for consumers.
- Implement and coordinate research and quality improvement activities in relevant areas of service delivery.
- Lead a positive workplace culture by building collegial professional relationships and demonstrating a commitment to proactively seeking solutions when issues arise.
- Model an exemplary level of professional and ethical standards in clinical interventions and uphold the National Quality and Safety Health Care Standards.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications
Specific qualifications include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Degree in Physiotherapy with a minimum of five years working in a relevant clinical setting.
- Post graduate qualification in a relevant field of Physiotherapy.
- Be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Desirable
- Current Drivers Licence.
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
Experience
Specific experience includes, but is not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Relevant Physiotherapy qualifications and a minimum of five years’ experience.
Desirable
- Experience working professionally in health services to women and children is preferred.
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, and all other related frameworks.
Prior to commencement
Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:
- Pre-employment National Police Check.
- Current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.
- Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
- Comply with CHS credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for allied health professionals.

- Proven ability to use advanced clinical reasoning, specialist knowledge and clinical skills to deliver a range of complex physiotherapy services for women in the postnatal period and with infants up 12 months of age through the integration of evidence into clinical practice.
- Demonstrated ability to provide professional leadership, through the facilitation of evidence-based practice, including participation in quality activities and/or research, and the professional development and supervision of other staff.
- Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills with clients, carers, and staff, including the ability to work as a member of the multidisciplinary team and to co-ordinate holistic care with other health professionals and service care providers.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in research, development and evaluation of services, quality improvement, clinical practices, policies and procedures, and other systems of clinical governance within a complex health environment.
