The Quality, Safety and Governance team provides leadership for corporate and quality and safety, assurance, and governance systems and processes, supporting all other clinical and operational areas within the Canberra Health Services Network to deliver exceptional health care. It includes Quality and Safety, National Standards and Accreditation, Internal Audit, Risk Management and Compliance, Medico Legal, Corporate Records, Strategic Communications, Clinical Incident Management, Policy and Strategy areas. The Director, Internal Audit and Compliance, is part of the broader Quality, Safety and Governance team, and reports to the Senior Director, Internal Audit, Risk and Compliance. The role helps to ensure the organisation is meeting its governance and compliance responsibilities. This position manages Canberra Health Services legislative compliance and delegations systems and processes and supports the Senior Director in their role of Head of Internal Audit in managing the Internal Audit program and supporting the Audit and Risk Management Committee.

Key Responsibilities

Under general direction, you will be responsible for supporting CHS in managing the internal audit, legislative compliance and delegation’s functions and manage their effective operation within CHS. You will be responsible for:

  1. Providing oversight, management, and monitoring of the CHS legislative compliance and delegations systems and processes to support evidence-based, personal, safe, and high-quality health care.
  2. Supporting the Head of Internal Audit to manage the Internal Audit Program including facilitating and coordinating internal audit activity, contract management with outsourced providers, monitoring progress of audit recommendations and collating evidence provided in support of resolving recommendations.
  3. Supporting the Head of Internal Audit to report to the Audit and Risk Management committee and CHS Senior Executive on the progress and outcomes of internal audit and legislative compliance activities, and overall performance in accordance with key performance indicators, and provide administrative support to the Audit and Risk Management committee as needed.
  4. Supporting compliance, assurance reviews, internal audits, investigations, and other non-assurance assignments recommended by the Senior Executive.
  5. Fostering and maintaining productive working relationships with key stakeholders and representing the team, division or organisation at relevant internal and external committees, forums, and events.
  6. Undertaking other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.
