Position overview
The Organisational Development (OD) unit is a specialist team within People and Culture responsible for an organisational level strategic approach to empowering people, elevating performance and leading the workforce at CHS.
The OD unit brings a strong focus on CHS values of reliable, progressive, respectful and kind to all their work, which includes but is not limited to:
- Building strategic partnerships across the organisation to elevate engagement with organisational development and wellbeing approaches.
- Lead the development of managers and leaders through contemporary leadership frameworks.
- Providing individual support for managers and leaders to enable team culture development e.g. education, development and coaching.
- Managing and leading organisational programs including Diversity and Inclusion, Organisational Wellbeing, Awards and Recognition.
- Manage and coordinate the whole of organisation workplace culture survey.
- Supporting and promoting contemporary humanistic change management principles.
Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Lead system-wide organisational culture and leadership initiatives aligned with organisational goals and within healthcare context through the design, development, implementation and evaluation of programs and activities.
- Support CHS business units with improving employee engagement and workplace culture and organisational change by working collaboratively with other P&C functions and HRBPs to scope issues and development and implement customised solutions, drawing on contemporary best practice in healthcare.
- Develop and implement the leadership and management framework aligned with organisational goals and within the health care context.
- Provide high level advice and briefs on organisational development initiatives and related issues to the Senior Director, Organisational Development, as well as to the CEO and other relevant Executives.
- Facilitate workshops to a high standard which engage diverse stakeholders and result in meaningful actions, including leadership and management training for clinical and non-clinical staff.
- Assist in leading, managing and developing a small professional team.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

- Adaptability and flexibility to accommodate changing demands and provide responsive services to meet clients’ needs.
Qualifications
Essential
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field, such as HR or psychology, or equivalent experience, with demonstrated engagement in contemporary organisational development or leadership practice.
Desirable
- Formal recognised coaching qualification and member of appropriate association.
- Current driver’s license.
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
Experience
Essential
- Prior experience in a similar leadership role, providing strategic leadership and advice on organisational development, leadership and wellbeing programs.
Desirable
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, and all other related frameworks.

Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:
- Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.

- Proven understanding and track record of achievement in analysing and designing solutions for contemporary workplace culture in healthcare and ability to design innovative solutions.
- Proven track record of achievement in leadership and management capability development aligned with organisational culture.
- Demonstrated high level of communication skills, including negotiation, conflict resolution, influencing, and group facilitation and strong capability to produce high quality documentation.
- High level of demonstrated leadership capability to achieve desired organisational outcomes working effectively with others, including external providers, and developing the capabilities of a team.
- Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, Work Health and Safety and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
