Position overview
The position entails working as part of the Department of Bariatric Medicine multi-disciplinary team to promote positive patient outcomes through the provision of high-quality clinical services, case management, health promotion and quality improvement activities and education.
Clinical service delivery includes group and individual education and intervention for people with morbid obesity.
Interventions provided by the Dietitian within the service may include counselling to improve diet quality, placing patients on closely monitored Very Low Energy Diets, supporting pharmacotherapy and guiding diet post bariatric surgery.
Key Responsibilities
Under limited direction of the Department of Bariatric Medicine Clinical Coordinator,
You will:
- Undertake high level comprehensive nutrition assessment and delivery of evidence-based interventions, with a particular focus on the management of patients living with obesity and chronic disease.
- Independently perform routine clinical duties for this level and classification, under general professional guidance.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with multidisciplinary colleagues, service managers, and stakeholders by using effective communication pathways that support seamless service delivery and continuity of high-quality patient care.
- Support patient education and empowerment through the delivery of relevant evidence-based education and interventions to patients, carers, and families, and where appropriate assist patients to access appropriate health and community services to optimise health outcomes.
- Support patient self-management through the provision of patient-centered clinical care, education and assisting with appropriate health and community services.
- Work collaboratively in leading the coordination and implementation of research or quality improvement initiatives and service development activities under appropriate professional supervision.
- Participate in and provide professional clinical supervision and/or training to other staff and students.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications
Essential
- Hold an undergraduate or post graduate qualification in Nutrition and Dietetics.
- Eligible for membership with the Dietitians Association of Australia, and eligible to hold Accredited Practicing Dietitian (APD) credential
- Registered under the Working for Vulnerable People Act.
Desirable
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
Experience
Essential
- Applicants must have a minimum of 3 years (ideally 5 years) post-qualification experience, ideally within bariatric care and/or chronic disease management.
Desirable
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.
Prior to commencement
Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:
- Pre-employment National Police Check.
- Current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.
- Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
- Comply with CHS credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for allied health professionals.
