Position overview

The Nutrition Department is primarily responsible for the management of core functions and provision of Nutrition based allied health services within Canberra Health Services.

Services include:

  • Clinical Dietetic Services to:
    • Inpatients on the University of Canberra Hospital and Canberra  Hospital Campuses including the Centenary Hospital for Women and Children and  the Adult Mental Health Unit
    • Outpatients requiring specialist care from the ACT and regional  NSW.
  • Operation of centralised Special Diet Service
  • Operation of Infant Feeding Service
  • Coordination of Canberra Health Services Clinical Education  Program for Nutrition and Dietetic students from various local universities
  • Food Service governance activities in partnership with the  Canberra Hospital Food Service Department

Under supervision of the Senior Dietitian, you will provide clinical dietetic services across the Canberra Health Service and contribute to service improvement and quality improvement/quality assurance activities of the department.

Key Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Provide appropriate assessment and interventions using established principles, techniques, and methods with support.
  2. Work collaboratively as part of your work area team, and with consumers, carers, significant others, GPs, and other service providers in therapeutic goal setting, planning and implementation, as consent allows.
  3. Complete clinical and administrative data collection and evaluation to standard.
  4. Participate in clinical supervision, continuing professional development and performance planning and review processes.
  5. Participate in team and program related service activities as required.
  6. Participate in implementation of clinical governance activity, quality improvement projects, research programs, and health promotion in areas relevant to service.
  7. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification and within the approved scope of clinical practice which contribute to the operations of the organisation.

Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.

Ability to deliver evidence-based nutrition care including the ability to translate dietary requirements into food-based recommendations and the ability to counsel clients and their carers in nutrition and dietetic principles, including food planning and food selection to support identified nutrition and other outcomes.
  2. Understanding of and ability to work effectively within Nutrition and multi-disciplinary teams and collaborate with other service providers to ensure effective patient outcomes.
  3. Ability to prioritise and manage a caseload, under supervision, with awareness of and adherence to risk management processes.
  4. Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to use a range of information technology applications to maintain clinical documentation and data collection.
  5. Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful and kind.
