Position overview

Physiotherapy within Acute Allied Health Services (AAHS) provides services to a range of paediatric clients in acute inpatient and specialised outpatient settings based primarily in the Centenary Hospital for Women and Children. This position is a temporary position in Paediatrics and Neonatology with the aim of providing on-the-job learning and training, and clinical knowledge and skills acquisition within AAHS Physiotherapy Paediatric team. Our Physiotherapists work closely with patients, carers, referrers, other health care professionals and multidisciplinary teams to achieve safe high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Provide appropriate physiotherapy assessment and interventions to patients using established principles, techniques and methods in an acute hospital setting, primarily in paediatric and neonatal inpatient and outpatient setting.
  2. Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with patients and carers, the multidisciplinary treating team, and service providers to ensure timely and quality service provision across the continuum of care.
  3. Complete clinical documentation, program records and activity data entry to standards required and complying with records management policy and procedures.
  4. Exercise independent judgment on routine matters and under generally decreasing professional supervision when performing novel, complex or critical tasks.
  5. Assist in the supervision and education of  Health Professional 1 staff, students, allied health assistants and other support staff; and participate in education programs to support clinical service delivery, and supervision, teaching and training capability.
  6. Participate in clinical supervision, continuing professional development, performance appraisal and development.
  7. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

Essential

  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification in Physiotherapy.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

  • Minimum of one year full-time equivalent work experience as a Physiotherapist.

  • Pre-employment National Police Check.

  1. Proven ability and experience in assessing patients, planning and implementing physiotherapy treatment programs including appropriate patient/carer education relevant to paediatrics (acute care setting an advantage).
  2. Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  3. Demonstrated ability to maintain high professional standards and met organisation responsibilities for clinical documentation, data collection and clinical service evaluation.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of clinical governance with commitment to and experience in quality improvement activities, performance evaluation, clinical supervision and education, research and health promotion.
  5. Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, Work Health and Safety and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
