Position overview
The Women, Youth and Children (WYC) Community Nutrition team works with individuals, families and communities to improve health and wellbeing through delivery of evidence-based nutrition care. Our goal is to support clients to eat well, enjoy nourishing foods and develop a positive relationship with food and their body. We strive to deliver respectful care, working in partnership to meet the expressed needs of the client in a safe environment. Our team provides a range of community-based services including individual dietary assessment, care planning and counselling for infants, children, young people and pregnant and breastfeeding women, and education programs for staff and client groups. The team provides outreach services for the Women’s Health Service and coordinates the School Kids Intervention Program (SKIP) for families with overweight / obese children.
The Nutrition Manager provides strategic leadership and management for the Nutrition team and School Kids Intervention Program. The position holder reports to the Senior Director, Women, Youth and Children Community Health Programs These reporting lines are subject to change.
Note: This position is part-time at 29.4 hours per week (4 days a week) and the full-time salary noted above will be pro-rata.
Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide strategic direction, planning and leadership for the Nutrition Team and the School Kids Intervention Program (SKIP).
- Be accountable for: 1) your own decisions which are based on your professional judgement, and 2) the performance of the Nutrition Team and SKIP by managing all risks and issues with the day-to-day business and objectives of the service for continuing improvement.
- Under limited direction, using discretion and initiative manage the physical, human and financial resources, which includes using data from EPIC DHR to monitor and report on service performance measures and outcomes which contribute to and maintain high level service to our clients and health outcomes.
- Provide expertise in evidence based clinical interventions and professional advice across a range of clinical areas relevant to the Nutrition and SKIP teams.
- Consult and liaise with internal and external stakeholders to develop partnerships for health promotion and other service delivery activities identified in the business plan.
- Initiate and facilitate clinical governance across both teams, including quality improvement activities and research, risk management and professional development in conjunction with management and the Profession Lead.
- Actively support student teaching and training activity relating to the nutrition discipline in conjunction with university partners and the Nutrition Clinical Educator.
- Provide professional and clinical supervision for all staff members within the Nutrition team and School Kids Intervention Program.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications
Essential
- Tertiary Qualifications in Nutrition and Dietetics and Eligibility for Membership of Dietitian’s Australia
- Current driver’s licence
- Be registered under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011.
Desirable
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
Experience
Essential
- Minimum of five years’ experience in clinical dietetics, specifically for women, children, and families
- Experience leading a team of highly trained, skilled, high functioning, progressive dietitians while recognising and respecting their expertise
- An excellent understanding of the nature of complex, vulnerable families within the context of their social determinants of health
- An excellent understanding of neurodiversity in the context of food and nutrition, in addition to experience working with neurodivergent clients
Desirable
- Extensive experience (> 5 years’) in clinical dietetics, specifically for women, children, and families is highly desirable
- Prior experience in trauma informed care
- Prior experience in neuro affirming care
- Prior experience in working with families of overweight children
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, and all other related frameworks.

Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:
- Pre-employment National Police Check.
- Current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.
- Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
- Comply with CHS credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for allied health professionals.

What you Require (Key Selection Criteria)

- Proven experience in leading and managing a community-based nutrition and dietetic care team, including the ability to provide strategic direction, drive innovative, progressive service development and improvement, managing financial, physical and human resources.
- Extensive clinical and health promotion experience, including provision of services and programs in the primary health care setting for pregnant women and families of infants, children, and young people, including neurodivergent people.
- Proven experience with electronic medical record systems, including EPIC DHR, and utilising the system’s reporting capabilities to develop appropriate clinical service reports which inform service performance and continual service development.
- Proven ability in managing clinical governance systems through the development of evidence-based clinical practice; quality improvement and research activities; staff education and performance; and partnering with consumers.
- High level interpersonal and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to engage and liaise with colleagues and other service providers.
- Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, Work Health and Safety and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
