Mental Health, Justice Health, Alcohol & Drug Services (MHJHADS) provide health services directly and through partnerships with community organisations. The services provided a range from prevention and treatment to recovery, maintenance, and harm minimisation. Consumer and carer participation is encouraged in all aspects of service planning and delivery. The Division works in partnership with consumers, carers and a range of government and non-government service providers to ensure the best possible outcomes for clients.
The Division delivers services at a number of locations, including hospital inpatient and outpatient settings, community health centres, detention centres, other community settings including peoples’ homes.
These services include:
- Adult Community & Older Persons Mental Health Services
- Adult Inpatient Mental Health Services
- Alcohol & Drug Services (ADS)
- Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)
- Justice Health Services (JHS)
CAMHS provides assessment and treatment for young people up to the age of 18 years who are experiencing moderate to severe mental health issues.
CAMHS teams are made up of multi-disciplinary mental health professionals who provide assessment treatment and clinical management within a recovery framework.
The team manager’s role will provide operational and clinical leadership of 3 programs: The Cottage Adolescent Day Program, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Program and Childhood Early Intervention Program.
The Cottage is a day program for young people who have moderate to severe mental health issues which impacts their ability to attend school.
The Dialectic Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Program provides DBT to adolescents aged 14-18 years who experience difficulties in managing their emotions and a pervasive pattern of difficulties in relationships.
The Childhood Early Intervention Program is an early intervention program for children and their parents in ACT primary schools. This is for children who are beginning to display some behavioural or mental health concerns such as conduct disorder, anxiety, or depression.
As the Team Manger you will have responsibility for direct line management and supervision of the multidisciplinary allied health team including allied health assistants.
The role will also require the team manager to undertake professional development, participate and lead quality initiatives and the management of human, financial and physical resources, including work, health, and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- In collaboration with the Child and Adolescent Clinical Director and Operational Director provide clinical leadership and management of the staff and undertaking a clinical caseload if required.
- Provide leadership and have accountability for the development, management, reporting and evaluation of team activity against targets and governance requirements, and maximize the efficiency of financial, human, and physical resources.
- Contribute to policy development and lead implementation, actively contribute to planning and the maintenance of clinical standards for the team in collaboration with Child and Adolescent Clinical Director and Operational Director, Managers, and staff.
- Promote quality activities and processes that support compliance with the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards and contribute to the governance structure by active participation in organizational development, committees, policy development and other relevant working groups.
- Build relationships and partner with key stakeholders to develop, implement and evaluate identified key strategies that align with National and Territory plans.
- Initiate and facilitate clinical governance within the team, including develop and implement auditing, completion of mandatory training, continuing professional development, performance management and research in consultation with relevant manager.
- Actively support clinical supervision, teaching and training activities and across the Territory in consultation with relevant Manager.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications
Essential
- For Social Work
- Degree in Social Work
- Eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers
- Registration or eligibility for registration under the Working with Vulnerable People Act 2011
- Must hold a current driver’s license

- Be registered or be eligible for general registration with Psychology Board of Australia

Experience
Essential
- Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years’ paid work experience, post qualification, in a related/relevant organisation/service.
Desirable
- Experience in working with children and young people.
- Experience in working in mental health.
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, and all other related frameworks.
Prior to commencement
Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:
- Pre-employment National Police Check.
- Current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.
- Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
- Comply with CHS credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for allied health professionals.

Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.
