Position overview
The Clinical Support Officer will play a pivotal role in enabling the smooth operational and administrative functions of both the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Cardiology Unit at North Canberra Hospital. Reporting directly to the ICU/CCU ADON and operationally to ICU Director and Cardiology Director, this position serves as a critical interface between clinical, administrative and executive teams, ensuring day to day administrative functions support efficient, accurate and timely operations.
Working across two specialised high-acuity clinical environments, the Clinical Support Officer brings a high level of administrative expertise, initiative and problem-solving capability. Key responsibilities include medical staff roster management, payroll administration, locum coordination, and supporting recruitment processes. The role involves significant autonomy and is responsible for leading administrative processes, coordinating resources, information systems, and providing support to the ICU and cardiology leadership teams.
The Clinical Support Officer will assist with continuous improvement activities, contribute to workforce and business planning activities, and play a key role in supporting accreditation and governance requirements across the units.
Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
- Manage day to day administrative operations ensuring effective and high-quality support to the ICU and Cardiology leadership teams including organising meetings, preparation of reports, correspondence, committee documentation and briefing materials.
- Develop, implement and maintain administrative systems, procedures and processes to support efficient operations of the ICU and cardiology units at NCH.
- Manage medical workforce administration functions including rostering, payroll, leave processing for ICU staff and workforce data reporting in accordance with enterprise agreements and organisational requirements.
- Assist the medical administration team with recruitment, onboarding, credentialling and orientation processes for medical staff.
- Process invoices, manage cab charges and reconcile acquittals when required.
- Establish and maintain system for records management and support the ICU Director and Cardiologist.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, acting as a key administrative liaison across the hospital.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operations of the organisation.

Qualifications
Specific qualifications include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- High level of computer literacy, including proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, and all other related frameworks.
- Have experience with health information management or corporate systems (e.g. Cerner, SAP, TRIM/HPE Content Manager or equivalent).
Experience
Specific experience includes but is not limited to the following.
Essential
- Demonstrated experience in providing high-level administrative support and coordination in a complex health, government or similar professional environment.
- Written and verbal communication including producing reports and correspondence.
Desirable
- Previous experience in an acute hospital or health service environment, particularly within an ICU, CCU or comparable critical care setting.
- Demonstrated experience in roster management, payroll administration and/or locum coordination in a health or government environment.

- High level computer and keyboard skills, and experience in a variety of Microsoft software programs
