Mental Health, Justice Health, Alcohol and Drug Services (MHJHADS) provide health services in both inpatient and outpatient settings (e.g., hospital, community health centres, justice health facilities, people’s homes). MHJHADS aim to be socially inclusive and operate within a recovery-focussed and/or harm minimisation approach. Consumer and carer participation is encouraged in all aspects of service planning and delivery. The Division works in partnership with a range of government and non-government services to ensure the best possible outcomes for consumers.

An exciting opportunity exists for a Clinical Neuropsychologist to join the friendly and supportive MHJHADS Neuropsychology team. This position will involve providing neuropsychological assessment and intervention across all programs of MHJHADS including:

  • Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services
  • Adult & Older Persons Mental Health Services
  • Alcohol & Drug Services
  • Mental Health Inpatient Services

Key Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

  1. Promoting positive client outcomes through high-quality clinical services.
  2. Providing individual or group service delivery.
  3. Performing normal professional work under general professional guidance.
  4. May perform novel, complex, critical, or difficult tasks with professional supervision.
  5. Participating in the supervision and training of other staff, as directed.
  6. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Competencies

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.

  • Provide skilled neuropsychological assessment and intervention across a range of clinical areas.
  • Exercise independent professional judgement in solving problems and managing complex cases where principles, procedures and techniques require expansion, adaptation, or modification.
  • Liaise and consult with carers and other service providers to facilitate effective service provision as appropriate.
  • Participate in supervision, continuing professional development, and performance appraisal and development.
  • Consistent with relevant guidelines set out by the Psychology Board of Australia, provide supervision and/or training to other neuropsychology staff and students as directed.
  • Complete clinical and administrative data collection and evaluation to standard.
  • Participate in activities that contribute to clinical governance and quality improvement as relevant to the service. This includes contributing to service planning, development, and evaluation in specific area of work as required.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification and within the scope of clinical practice which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications

Essential
  • Postgraduate psychology qualification - Masters/Doctoral degree in Clinical Neuropsychology.
  • General psychology registration with the Psychology Board of Australia under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra).
  • Area of Practice Endorsement in Neuropsychology and eligibility to supervise higher degree students. Applicants with an AOPE who are not yet a Board approved supervisor are still encouraged to apply.

  • 3 years (ideally 5) post qualification experience.

  • Pre-employment National Police Check.
  • Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
  • Comply with CHS credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for allied health professionals.

  1. Proven experience and ability to conduct skilled neuropsychological assessment and intervention, in line with the competencies for Area of Practice Endorsement in clinical neuropsychology as set out by the Psychology Board of Australia.
  2. Proven ability to provide clinical supervision to staff, registrars, and students in accordance with Psychology Board of Australia requirements.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary clinical environment and prioritise workload according to clinical indicators, a risk management framework, and organisational requirements.
  4. Demonstrated ability to evaluate clinical services through quality initiatives and to contribute to service planning and development to meet client needs.
  5. Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful and kind.
