Position overview
Mental Health, Justice Health, Alcohol and Drug Services (MHJHADS) is a key division of Canberra Health Services providing integrated care across the ACT. It delivers mental health, alcohol and other drug, and justice health services in hospital, community, and custodial settings, supporting people across the lifespan. MHJHADS offers recovery‑focused, multidisciplinary care, working in partnership with consumers, carers, government and non‑government services to support wellbeing, reduce harm, and promote recovery.
This is an opportunity for a Clinical Neuropsychologist to join a supportive and collaborative Neuropsychology team within MHJHADS. The team provides neuropsychological services across the division including:
- Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services
- Adult & Older Persons Mental Health Services
- Alcohol & Drug Services
- Non-Acute Mental Health Inpatient Services
Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
- Promoting positive client outcomes through high-quality clinical services.
- Providing individual or group service delivery.
- Performing normal professional work under general professional guidance.
- May perform novel, complex, critical, or difficult tasks with professional supervision.
- Participating in the supervision and training of other staff, as directed.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.
Competencies
Specific competencies include but are not limited to the following.
- Provide skilled neuropsychological assessment and intervention across a range of clinical areas.
- Exercise independent judgment on routine matters and perform novel, complex or critical tasks under professional supervision (with decreasing level of supervision as expertise increases).
- Liaise and consult with carers and other service providers to facilitate effective service provision as appropriate.
- Participate in supervision, continuing professional development, and performance appraisal and development.
- Consistent with relevant guidelines set out by the Psychology Board of Australia, provide supervision and/or training to other staff and students as directed.
- Complete clinical and administrative data collection and evaluation to standard.
- Participate in activities that contribute to clinical governance and quality improvement as relevant to the service. This includes contributing to service planning, development, and evaluation in specific area of work as required.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification and within the scope of clinical practice which contribute to the operation of the organisation.
Qualifications
Specific qualifications include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- General psychology registration with the Psychology Board of Australia under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra).
- Postgraduate psychology qualification - Masters/Doctoral degree in Clinical Neuropsychology.
- Hold (or be eligible to apply for) an Area of Practice Endorsement in Clinical Neuropsychology.
Desirable
- Current driver’s licence.
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
Experience
Specific experience include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Have a minimum of 12 months post-qualification experience.
Desirable
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.
- Previous experience working in a mental health setting.

- Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
- Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
- Comply with CHS credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for allied health professionals.

- Proven ability to conduct skilled neuropsychological assessment and intervention, in line with the competencies for Area of Practice Endorsement in clinical neuropsychology as set out by the Psychology Board of Australia.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member in a multidisciplinary clinical environment and prioritise workload according to clinical indicators, a risk management framework, and organisational requirements.
- An understanding of how to evaluate clinical services through quality initiatives, and to contribute to service planning and development to meet client needs.
- Strong, ongoing commitment to professional development.
