The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) sits within the Mental Health, Justice Health and Alcohol & Drug division of CHS. CAMHS provides assessment and treatment for children and young people up to the age of 18 years who are experiencing moderate to severe mental health issues.

The Childhood Early Intervention Program (CEIP) is a specialist team within CAMHS with a focus on mental health well-being and early intervention for primary school aged children. The CEIP is a multidisciplinary team that work in collaboration with the Education and Community Services Directorates.

CEIP deliver both group-based intervention and support to children and families within ACT primary schools as well as mental health in-reach through co-facilitation of groups and secondary consultation, to the Child and Family Centres. Core business days for the program are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The role contributes to the success of CHS through collaboration with various schools to develop and deliver services to ensure the consistent early detection, treatment and prevention of emerging severe social, emotional and behavioural difficulties in primary school aged children.

Key Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Under limited direction of the CAMHS CEIP Team manager, as a clinical manager, you will:

1. Implement the delivery of an early intervention program and provide both group based and individual intervention, assessment and support to children and families/carers.
2. Provide clinical support, education and consultation to, as well as work in partnership with, other CAMHS teams, ACT Primary Schools, Child and Family Centres and other relevant agencies.
3. Work collaboratively as a multi-disciplinary team member, contributing discipline specific clinical expertise and participation in research, quality initiatives and contributions to the multidisciplinary team needs and processes.
4. Undertake clinical supervision and professional development activities and provide clinical supervision as required.
5. Work within the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation.
6. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

• Ability to effectively prioritise and respond to competing demands in a calm, organised and efficient manner, while maintaining high standards of clinical practice and professional accountability.
• Demonstrated competence in undertaking comprehensive individual assessments and translating findings into formulation and intervention, as well as planning and delivering structured, evidence-informed group programs tailored to the needs of children, young people, and their families and or carers.
• Demonstrated attention to detail and accountability in maintaining accurate, organised and professional clinical documentation and record keeping in line with organisational and legislative requirements.
• Commitment to quality improvement and innovation, including active participation in service evaluation, continuous improvement initiatives, and activities that enhance program effectiveness and client outcomes.

Qualifications

Essential

For Occupational Therapy:

• Be registered or eligible for registration with Occupational Therapy Board of Australia.
• Eligibility for professional membership of Occupational Therapy Australia.
• Must hold a current driver’s license.

For Social Work:

• Degree in Social Work.
• Eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
• Registration or eligibility for registration under the Working with Vulnerable People Act 2011.
• Must hold a current driver’s license.

For Psychology:

• Be registered or be eligible for general registration with Psychology Board of Australia.
• Must hold a current driver’s license.

Desirable

• Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.

Experience

Essential

• 3 years’ post-qualification experience working professionally in respective field.
• Availability to work during school terms in accordance with program operations.

Desirable

• Previous experiencing delivering therapeutic group programs.
• Experience with Children and Adolescents - Prior experience or knowledge in delivering therapeutic interventions with children, adolescents, or young adults experiencing mental health concerns.
• Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, and all other related frameworks.

Prior to commencement

Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:

• Pre-employment National Police Check.
• Current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.
• Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
• Comply with CHS credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for allied health professionals.

• Be available to work the core business days of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. To work throughout the school terms, with holidays generally taken in accordance with the latter.

CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.

1. Demonstrated clinical experience working with children and families within a mental health assessment and evidence-based practice model, including administration of screening and psychometric tools.
2. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of early intervention practices and childhood development theory and models.
3. Demonstrated group work experience and ability to tailor and lead group-based interventions.
4. Experience and sound skills in the provision of mental health literacy training, liaison and consultation to the multidisciplinary team, families and other community service providers as well as maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders.
5. Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, Work Health and Safety and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
