Position overview

An MI4 Breast Sonographer is a highly skilled imaging professional responsible for performing comprehensive breast ultrasound examinations with a high level of autonomy and clinical judgment.

This role requires expertise in breast anatomy, pathology, image acquisition, and patient care, as well as the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary breast health team.

Key Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Under the direction of the radiologist, perform breast ultrasound examinations in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team.
2. Assist with the training of Radiographers/Sonographers in breast sonography where required.
3. Participate in Quality Assurance and Quality control programs as required by CHS.
4. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications

Essential

• Relevant tertiary qualification in sonography (breast sonography).
• Must hold current registration with the Australian Sonographers Accreditation Registry (ASAR) as a breast sonographer.

Desirable

• Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.

Experience

Essential

• Minimum two years’ experience as a Sonographer.

Desirable

• Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, and all other related frameworks.

Prior to commencement

Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:

• Pre-employment National Police Check.
• Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
• Comply with CHS credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for allied health professionals.

1. Proven experience and expertise in breast sonography to achieve high level outcomes, with an understanding of the role of breast sonography in line with the Australia National Accreditation Standards.
2. Proven effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as a member of the multidisciplinary team and to supervise staff and students.
3. Proven experience or demonstrated understanding in system administration, support, and training in a digital imaging environment.
4. Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful and kind.
