The Haematology and Immunology Outpatient Service is a dedicated unit providing a variety of procedures and treatments within an Ambulatory setting to patients with malignant and non-malignant haematological or immunological disorders in the ACT community. Australian Haemophilia Centre Directors’ Organisation (AHCDO)

AHCDO is the national medical body for haemophilia in Australia. AHCDOs objectives are:

  • to advance care and treatment of people with  haemophilia in Australia.
  • to advance the education of the medical profession and the broad range of health professionals associated with people with haemophilia in the knowledge of haemophilia and its treatment.
  • to promote haemophilia research, and to disseminate the results of such research.
  • to liaise with and provide information and advice to Haemophilia Foundation Australia (HFA), Federal, State and Territory Governments, and other such bodies involved in the welfare of people with haemophilia in Australia.

AHCDO is a not-for-profit organisation and was incorporated in Victoria in January 2001 under the Associations Incorporation Act. It operates as a national organisation from offices in metropolitan Melbourne and membership consists of the medical directors of Haemophilia Treatment Centres and other clinicians actively involved in the treatment of people with bleeding disorders.

The Australian Bleeding Disorders Registry (ABDR) is a registry for patients in Australia with bleeding disorders. It is used on a daily basis by clinicians in all Australian haemophilia treatment centres (HTCs) to assist in managing the treatment of people with bleeding disorders and to gain a better understanding of the incidence and prevalence of bleeding disorders.

First developed in 1995, the current fourth generation system was launched by the National Blood Authority (NBA) in August 2012. ABDR is managed in collaboration with the Australian Haemophilia Centre Directors' Organisation (AHCDO), Haemophilia Foundation Australia (HFA) and all Australian governments and is overseen by the ABDR Steering Committee.

The ABDR Data Manager is responsible for the management of the Australian Bleeding Disorders Registry (ABDR) data entry and to support HTC staff, including haematologists, Clinical Nurse Consultants, Clinical Research Assistants, physiotherapists and social workers in their use of the ABDR.

The information collected and maintained in the ABDR is critical for analysis of clinical observations, special projects and advice to governments.

Key Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

  1. Maintain clinical and demographic data for clinic patients with bleeding disorders using the ABDR, maintaining confidentiality, privacy and accuracy of data to comply with the Commonwealth Privacy Act and State/Territory health standards.
  2. Communicate with key stakeholders, HTC Directors and staff, hospital/medical staff and product suppliers as appropriate.
  3. Collect additional data for projects as directed and initiated by AHCDO.
  4. Provide ABDR support to HTC staff.
  5. Report faults and problems with the ABDR to the Help Desk.
  6. Liaise with data managers in other HTCs around Australia, AHCDO, the ABDR Steering Committee and Government representatives in the jurisdictions of employment on information needs and clarifications as they arise.
  7. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.
