Position overview
The Chief Financial Officer Division is led by the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) who reports to the Chief Executive officer of Canberra Health Services. The CFO Division is responsible for the development and maintenance of budgets, financial management, and for providing strong operational finance and performance reporting analysis across the health service. The six sub-units within the CFO Division include the Financial Operations and Support Unit, Revenue and Financial Services, Patients Accounts, Health Information Unit and Procurement & Supply.
The Audit and Compliance Officer supports a safe, compliant, and high-performing Supply Operations team. Reporting to the Assistant Director, Supply Operations, the role leads workplace safety, compliance, training, audit, and continuous improvement activities across supply operations. Working closely with operational leaders and frontline staff, you will help strengthen safety culture, develop workforce capability, and ensure compliance with legislative, operational, and organisational requirements.
This position is primarily located at the CHS Distribution Centre and may be required to work weekly at other CHS sites with availability between 7:00am - 7:00pm and for occasional weekend and after-hours work.
Key Responsibilities
Under minimal direction of the Assistant Director, Supply Operations, you will lead safety improvement initiatives through collaboration with Assistant Directors and key stakeholders to ensure compliance with workplace safety requirements.
Help drive best practices that enhance operational efficiency, quality assurance, and continuous improvement in alignment with organisational objectives.
- Quality assurance and compliance:
- Creating work instructions, competencies, induction and safety training programs tailored to different operational roles within the organisation.
- Implement and embed work instructions, competencies, induction and safety training programs.
- Ensure all logistics plant and equipment are appropriately maintained and registered /certified to meet legislative and operational requirements.
- Propose and implement continuous operational improvement initiatives utilising best practice principles (e.g. 5S / Standard 3).
- Identify and rectify safety hazards and maintain required registers and licenses (e.g. dangerous substances, safety data sheets, product recall).
- Ensure workplace health and safety risk register is up to date, and corrective actions are recorded and completed in a timely manner.
- Coordinate preventative and reactive facility maintenance requirements.
- Undertaking staff training and assessment:
- Facilitating regular inductions, training and assessment of new/current staff and subcontractors ensuring compliance with CHS and Supply Operations policies, procedures, safe work method statements, work instructions and standard operating procedures.
- Complete staff competency assessments for all operations, including but not limited to forklift and trucks.
- Conduct regular auditing of supply operations activities and processes.
- Coordinate periodic mandatory training e.g. manual handling training, Fire and Emergency, etc.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation in collaboration with the Assistant Directors to accommodate staffing and workload variations.
- Displaying and promoting behaviours that advocate CHS core values and working collaboratively with peers to balance workloads.

- Strong organisational skills with a high degree of drive.
- In-depth understanding of supply principles, including WH&S, compliance, and patient care outcomes through supply efficiency.
- Ability to adjust daily workflows, including but not limited to procedural, administrative or operational tasks to meet service delivery targets.
- Self-motivated with sound judgment, manages competing priorities under pressure whilst maintaining high standards of care and responsiveness.
- Demonstrated ability to provide hands-on operational support, maintain operational readiness, and effectively transfer knowledge and skills to others while actively engaging in continuous professional development.
Qualifications
Specific qualifications include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Current Forklift licence.
- Ability to complete a Cert IV or Diploma in Training and Assessment within 18 months of commencing in the role.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word & Excel).
Desirable
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
Experience
Specific experience includes but is not limited to the following.
Essential
- Prior experience working in a warehouse environment or relevant setting.
- Proven ability to develop and deliver safety training programs.
Desirable
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, and all other related frameworks.
Prior to commencement
Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:
- Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.

Computer literacy skills are required, which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.
