Position overview
The Assistant Director provides high‑level operational, strategic and executive support within the Integrated Operations Centre (IOC). This position has a key coordination role in the delivery of CHS transformational agenda across the acute, planned and subacute care streams. Reporting to the Executive Director, IOC, the position works in close partnership with the IOC senior leadership team and collaborates with CHS executives, data and analytics teams, clinical leaders, operational managers and colleagues across directorates to achieve outcomes.
The IOC supports patient flow across the care continuum through the development of systems and processes including real-time and predictive management of patient flow, operational and capacity planning, escalation protocols/pathways and system-wide coordination of services. The Assistant Director provides high‑level advice and executive coordination in support of these functions, including coordinating and preparing briefs, correspondence, reports and analyses, and supporting the governance, performance and operational forums and functions of the IOC.
To be successful in this role, the incumbent will demonstrate highly developed written and oral communication skills, the ability to operate with agility in a dynamic and fast‑paced environment, and the capacity to rapidly acquire and apply knowledge across a range of complex operational and strategic contexts.
Key Responsibilities
Under limited direction of the Executive Director, you will:
- Provide high-level executive and operational support to the Executive Director and IOC leadership team, contributing to the effective functioning and continuous improvement of the Integrated Operations Centre.
- Coordinate and prepare briefings and correspondence on behalf of the Executive Director and the Integrated Operations Centre in relation to divisional, cross-divisional, cross-directorate and government business. This includes but is not limited to:
- Internal minutes.
- Consumer feedback and engagement.
- Human Rights Commission.
- Cabinet submissions.
- Ministerial and Assembly material.
- Engage, develop and maintain effective relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders across CHS and other directorates, as well as the community sector and peak bodies.
- Support IOC governance structures, including meetings, decision logs, actions tracking and performance monitoring/reporting.
- Contribute to the development and support implementation of policies and programs addressing core business of the Integrated Operations Centre, including planning and managing key projects as required across work streams.
- Prepare documents, reports and presentations to support the Integrated Operations Centre to achieve its strategic and operational objectives.
- Monitor and maintain the relevant registers, recommendations and tracking documents to support high quality service provision, preparation of evidence to close recommendations and actions through appropriate governance.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

- Several years’ work experience in a similar role and role environment.

- Previous experience working within a health administration area supporting Executive level officers.
- Experience using record management systems for example HPE Content Manager (also known as TRIM).
- Experience and understanding of Ministerial and consumer feedback processes.
- Project management experience.
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
