Position overview

The People and Culture Branch is located at Canberra Hospital and is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational implementation of human resource strategies relating to a diverse range of human resource and industrial relations functions across Canberra Health Services.

Reporting to the Director Business Partnership, this role works closely with their allocated management teams in conjunction with the centres of expertise, to provide an integrated and client focused approach. As an Assistant Director Business Partnership, you will have the ability to balance the need for consistency, and the importance of local, responsive and flexible approaches to HR services, advocating for and on behalf of the client, to assist Canberra Health Services in achieving an engaged and high performing workforce.

Key Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following. You will:

  1. Lead the case-management of HR matters within your allocated business units, assisting managers to resolve performance, misconduct and other management processes, and appropriately working in  conjunction with the employee relations function on complex matters.
  2. Contribute to the research and development of official correspondences including but not limited to minutes, briefs, ministerial responses and reporting requirements.
  3. Contribute to the development and maintenance of HR policies, guidance material and knowledge articles.
  4. Assist the Director Business Partnership to implement the HR agenda within your allocated Divisions and Business Units, to support and enable management teams across Canberra Health Services.
  5. Develop and maintain strong relationships with managers in their area of responsibility, providing ideas and challenging management teams to act as a catalyst for change and culture improvement.
  6. Take a coaching approach to facilitate effective, consistent, empowering people management – expecting and enabling local managers to assume increasing responsibility for all aspects of people management.
  7. Partner with internal stakeholders to prepare and deliver regular Divisional HR reports and monitor trends across your area of responsibility.
  8. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.

  4. Demonstrated comprehensive written and oral communication skills, including negotiation and liaison skills with demonstrated capacity to foster productive relationships with key stakeholders.
