Occupational Therapists in Canberra Health services work collaboratively with individuals, families, carers and internal and external service providers to maximise the health, wellbeing and occupational engagement of Canberrans.
CHS Occupational Therapists provide exceptional care through the delivery of high-quality Occupational Therapy assessment and a range of therapeutic interventions including harm prevention and minimisation strategies, therapy to promote recovery, rehabilitation and reablement, supporting safe and sustainable discharge to the community, and long-term occupational engagement and the maintenance of wellbeing.

Acute Occupational Therapy services are provided to a range of clients in the acute inpatient setting and specialised outpatient services at Canberra Hospital. Under general direction you will be required to provide administrative support within the acute allied health services departments reporting to the manager of the department. You will be responsible for booking and scheduling, client appointments, banking/cash handling, data entry, and general administration tasks.

Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
- Provide administrative support to the activities and business of Acute Allied Health Services.
- Preparation, compiling, retrieving and storage management of patient records and confidential patient correspondence to support service delivery.
- Support the department(s) with Allied Health data entry and reporting as required.
- Provide a reception service for the department(s) as required, including answering telephone enquiries; liaising with patients, internal and external stakeholders; attending and actioning facsimiles and mail.
- Arranging and performing bookings for the department(s) using the Digital Health Record system (DHR) and other administration and clinical information systems.
- Undertaking other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the section with the delivery of high-quality person and family centered, safe and high-quality patient care.

Prior to commencement
Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:
- Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
- Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.
- Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.

Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.

- Proven administrative experience within a health care environment.
- As a member of a team, demonstrate strong organisational skills including the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines within a complex and multi-disciplinary work environment.
- Demonstrated experience in medical terminology, high level keyboard skills including a range of Microsoft Office packages with the understanding of, or willingness to learn, health information systems.
- Highly developed interpersonal, and communication skills, including the ability to liaise professionally and effectively with a broad range of health professionals, patients, families and carers.
- Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful and kind.
