Acute Allied Health Services (AAHS) Physiotherapy provides services to a range of clients in acute inpatient and specialised outpatient settings predominately at Canberra Hospital Our physiotherapists work closely with patients, carers, referrers and multidisciplinary teams to achieve safe, timely, high quality patient care.

AAHS Physiotherapy has 2 FTE Acute Clinical Educator positions. The clinical educators (CEs) have a key role in delivering high quality patient centered care through teaching, training and education of students and staff. The CEs are pivotal to the successful coordination, planning and delivery of acute student placements from University of Canberra and other university partners with clinical staff. The CEs work collaboratively with senior leadership team and senior clinicians to facilitate and provide staff with learning opportunities, formal supervision and further acquisition of knowledge, skills and clinical reasoning.

The CEs are integral members of the Department’s senior physiotherapy leadership team and carry designated portfolio responsibilities as part of the role. Day to day support, clinical supervision, and professional development is provided through the manager, senior leadership team and educator peers, formal clinical supervision arrangements, and informal and formal professional development opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

1. Provide specialised clinical expertise and interventions across a range of acute clinical areas.
2. Provide clinical leadership, teaching and training, and supervision for students and/or staff within Physiotherapy in consultation with the manager and senior physiotherapy leadership team.
3. Consult and liaise with university partners and external agencies to support clinical teaching, curriculum development and research.
4. Contribute  to policy development, quality improvement, service review and development initiatives, and organisation accreditation.
5. Actively support teaching and training activity within physiotherapy and other disciplines and across programs and services.
6. Promote professional research and contribute to advances within the profession.
7. Participate in clinical supervision, credentialing, continuing professional development and performance management.
8. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications

Specific qualifications include, but are not limited to, the following.

Essential

• Tertiary Qualification in Physiotherapy.
• Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Desirable

• Post graduate qualifications in education and training or relevant clinical field.

Experience

Specific experience include, but are not limited to, the following.

Essential

• Minimum of 5 years clinical experience post entry level qualifications.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience cardiorespiratory physiotherapy.

Desirable

• Previous experience as a clinical educator highly desirable.
• Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, and all other related frameworks.

Prior to commencement

Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:

• Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
• Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
• Comply with CHS credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for allied health professionals.

• Be available for weekend restricted on-call Physiotherapy HP4 roster.

Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.

1. Proven extensive experience in providing high standard of physiotherapy service for clients across a variety of acute care settings and the ability to promote and demonstrate best practice through the integration of evidence into clinical practice.
2. Demonstrated extensive experience in clinical education of students and staff including the coordination of student placements and education/training programs.
3. Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability of establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external service providers and stakeholders.
4. Proven ability in clinical governance systems to ensure delivery of services and teaching and training is  safe, effective, high quality and continuously improving.
5. Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful and kind.
