You can expect to receive high quality services and care from us. It is important that you know what to expect from us and what your responsibilities are during your hospital stay.

The Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights (‘the Charter’) explains the rights of everyone using the Australian health care system. We support and are committed to these rights.

The Charter summarises the basic rights all patients and consumers are entitled to receive when accessing health care services. They are:

  • access
  • safety
  • respect
  • partnership
  • information
  • privacy
  • give feedback.

You can view or download an accessible copy of the Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights (second edition).

The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care has produced useful information on your health care rights and responsibilities. You can visit their site to view or download:

We have a brochure about the Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights (PDF, 1689.42 KB) or you can ask us for a paper version when you are in hospital.
