If you are an NDIS participant and are admitted to hospital, you may want your NDIS-funded supports available while you’re an inpatient.

However, the NDIS do not generally fund supports for people in hospital (inpatients) as they expect this support to be provided by the health system. There are some exceptions to this rule and there is more information on the NDIS website.

If you have specific supports you feel you need to use during your stay in hospital, for example a disability support worker, we encourage you to discuss this with your NDIS Support Coordinator or the Local Area Coordinators. You can find a list of ACT and NSW local area coordinators, including their contact details, on the NDIS website.

If you would like any external health professionals (that is, health professionals not employed by Canberra Health Services) to provide support to you during your hospital stay, please let us know, it’s important we are aware. You can let us know by asking to speak to the nurse unit manager.
