The Therapies Team provides psychological, occupational, and family-based assessment and interventions for adults who are experiencing moderate to severe mental health concerns.
About this service
We provide high quality, evidence-based psychological and psychosocial interventions to people and families that are a core component of the treatment of a serious mental health disorder.
Our role is to provide targeted interventions that are unavailable elsewhere in the ACT for people who are clinically managed by a Community Recovery Service. Interventions provided include longer term psychological therapy to address complex trauma and Occupational Therapy treatment in the home.
Who we care for
We provide assessment and intervention for people who:
- are 18 years old or older
- have a moderate to severe mental illness
- are receiving treatment and care through a Mental Health Community Recovery Service
- are unable to access the assessment and therapy they need in the community.
How to access this service
Your clinical manager or Community Recovery Service can refer you to the Therapies Team.
They will:
- Discuss the reason for referral and request your consent to the referral with you.
- Complete the referral form, including recording your personal goals for therapy.
- Ask you to complete a brief questionnaire about readiness for psychological therapy (if referred for psychological therapy).
- Send the completed form to the Therapies Team, who will review the referral in a Multidisciplinary Team Meeting.
What to expect
We will review your referral and if it is accepted, you will be provided with a therapist.
The therapist will contact you to organise an appointment at a time and place that is convenient for both of you. You will receive text message reminders for all of your appointments.
Where we’re located
The Therapies Team will organise appointments with you at a community health centre.
