What to expect

We’ll contact you if you’re scheduled for a surgical procedure (either as an inpatient or for a day procedures) to let you know the details of your scheduled procedure and any additional requirements, such as attending a Preadmission Clinic appointment.

We’ll let you know the time of your procedure and where and when to present to the Surgical or Day Surgical admissions teams.

If for any reason you cannot attend your surgery or day surgery (such as illness or a personal emergency), please call our Switchboard on (02) 6201 6111 and ask to be connected to the Surgical Bookings Team. Please leave a message if one of our team do not answer your call.

We have general information about what to expect before, during and after your surgery.

Important information for day surgery patients

Until late 2023, patients attending a day surgery procedure appointment should present to the Surgical Admissions Lounge on Level 2 of the Xavier Building. Day surgery patients will be discharged and depart through the Day Procedure Unit in Level 2 Marian Building (beside Madeleine’s cafe). Our staff will walk each patient’s support person(s) through these arrangements if required.

What to bring to your appointment

  • Medicare card
  • Any letters or correspondence from your GP
  • Medicines you need to take while you are here
  • List of medicines you are currently taking (or the boxes), including medicines you have brought without a prescription, such as herbal supplements and vitamins
  • Previous x-ray films, scans, ultrasounds or any other test results or reports
