ACT Breast Care Nurses are registered nurses who specialise in the care of patients with breast cancer, providing support and information to patients and their family during treatment.

About this service

Breast Care Nurses are registered nurses who specialise in the care of people with breast cancer.

We provide support and information to you and your family during treatment, recovery and follow up.

We are members of a multidisciplinary team including surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, radiologists, radiation therapists, geneticists, pathologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dieticians, social workers, specialist nurses and your GP. We work together to assist in your care throughout treatment.

Who we care for

We care for people who have been diagnosed with a breast cancer and are being treated at an ACT health facility.

What to expect

We can provide you with support and information if you:

  • Are waiting for breast surgery and wish to discuss post op recovery and supports
  • Are undergoing treatment
  • Have finished treatment and want to discuss long term side effects
  • Wish to discuss support programs
  • Wish to discuss Hormone Therapy and side effects.

At times we may offer a drop-in clinic, on a Wednesday, to discuss things like diagnosis, treatment, wound management, side effects from treatment, or psychosocial concerns. Please call us on (02) 6201 6943 to find out when the next drop-in clinic will be held.

What to bring to your appointment

  • Medicare card
  • Any letters or correspondence from your GP
  • Medicines you need to take while you are here
  • List of medicines you are currently taking (or the boxes), including medicines you have brought without a prescription, such as herbal supplements and vitamins
  • Previous x-ray films, scans, ultrasounds or any other test results or reports
