The Postnatal Follow-up Clinic is a service provided by the Department of Neonatology for babies who require a medical review or follow-up.

About this service

Our Postnatal Follow-up Clinic is held most Thursday afternoons.

We will review your baby if they are at risk of hip dysplasia. Hip Dysplasia is where the bones of the hip joint do not fit together properly. Your baby may be at risk if they:

  • were born breech
  • have a family history of hip dysplasia or
  • have had an abnormal examination of the hips.

Your baby will have a hip ultrasound prior to the clinic appointment. Our Neonatal Registrar and a Physiotherapist will review them in the clinic after their ultrasound.

We also follow-up and review babies who need to have a renal ultrasound, spinal ultrasound or head ultrasound due to different conditions. In this case, your baby will have an ultrasound before the appointment in the clinic.

We sometimes review babies for another reason, if requested by the Neonatal Consultant or your General Practitioner.

Who we care for

We care for babies who were born at Canberra Hospital or have been referred to the clinic by their General Practitioner or Paediatrician.

This clinic is by appointment only.

We offer these services for free if you have a Medicare Card or an Asylum Seeker Card.
