The Police, Ambulance, and Clinician Early Response (PACER) team work together to respond to, assess, and help people experiencing a mental health crisis in the community.
About this service
The PACER team is a multi-agency team made up of a police officer, paramedic, and mental health clinician. The team works together to assess and help people of all ages who are experiencing a mental health crisis.
The police officer helps to make sure that you, the PACER team, and the community are kept safe.
The paramedic helps to check and treat any physical health concerns you may have.
The mental health clinician will assess your mental health concerns and provide support for you if you are in crisis.
Who we care for
PACER is available for people of all ages within the Australian Capital Territory who have been referred through ACT Policing or the ACT Ambulance Service.
How to access this service
You cannot contact PACER directly.
Referrals to PACER are received from ACT Policing or the ACT Ambulance Service.
PACER is available from 2pm to 12am, 7 days per week.
What to expect
If you have been referred to PACER through ACT Policing or the ACT Ambulance Service, the PACER team will visit you wherever you are in the community. They may call you before visiting. All members of the team will be wearing their uniforms.
Depending on what your mental health concern is, the team may:
- Provide you with general information and advice about mental health issues and mental health support services available in the ACT
- Refer you to mental health services for further mental health support
- Refer you to ACT Policing or the ACT Ambulance Service if there are concerns about your immediate safety or physical health or the safety of others.
Where we’re located
PACER sees all people in the community who need our care. PACER will visit you at home or wherever you are in the community when you are referred.
