Our Play Therapist provides age-appropriate play therapy for children and young people at the Centenary Hospital for Women and Children.

About this service

We provide play therapy, education and support to help your child have a positive hospital experience. Play therapy can also reduce stress and anxiety before, during and after hospital procedures.

Who we care for

Our Play Therapy Service is available to all children and young people admitted to tCentenary Hospital for Women and Children or attending hospital day stay or outpatient services.

How to access this service

Children, young people and their families (including siblings) can access the Play Therapy Service by speaking directly to the play therapist or asking a member of your treating team.

What to expect

We offer a range of play activities including:

  • story-telling
  • digital play
  • games
  • art and music therapy
  • distraction strategies and
  • relaxation techniques to build coping skills and resilience.

Our services are provided at your child’s bedside, in procedure rooms and/or in the paediatric playroom.

Where we’re located

The Playroom on the Paediatric Ward, Centenary Hospital for Women and Children, Canberra Hospital.
