This service treats both adults and children suffering from a bleeding disorder such as haemophilia and vonWillebrands disease.
About this service
This centre fulfils the National and International obligations of a Haemophilia Treatment Centre. We are staffed with 3 haematologists and an advanced practice nurse. We treat both adults and children.
We offer comprehensive care, providing advice for prophylactic care, for patients under going surgery and immediate care for patients suffering an acute bleed (during office hours).
Who we care for
We care for all people with an inherited or acquired bleeding disorder. You should have a letter from your treating HTC if you are traveling, detailing your factor levels and your treatment requirements. Your ABDR card should also have these details on it.
How to access this service
You should a referral from your GP for ongoing care. If you have an acute bleed, ring the HTC on 0481013323, to inform the nurse that you will be attending the walk in service. Our hours are 8.00am - 4.30pm Monday to Friday. If you have an acute bleed outside of these hours you will need to attend the emergency department.
What to expect
You will be seen by a haematologist at your first clinic appointment and will be introduced to the haemophilia nurse.

- Medicare card
- Any letters or correspondence from your GP
- Health Care Card and/or concession card (if you have one)
- Medicines you need to take while you are here
- List of medicines you are currently taking (or the boxes), including medicines you have bought without a prescription, such as herbal supplements and vitamins
- Previous x-ray films, scans, ultra-sounds or any other test results or reports
- Your child's personal health record (Blue Book)

The service is located in the Canberra Region Cancer Centre, building 19, level 4, Canberra Hospital. Ask for the haemophilia nurse.
