The Fitness to Drive Medical Clinic assesses your fitness to drive a motor vehicle. This assessment is used to determine your ability to hold an ACT driver’s licence and meet the medical standard for driving.

About this service

We accept referrals from the road transport authority, police, GPs and specialist doctors, nurses and health care workers.

You will be assessed against the medical standards for driving a motor vehicle.

If you are being assessed, you will not have to pay for this service.

Who we care for

The fitness to drive medical clinic is only available to ACT driver licence holders and/or ACT residents.

How to access this service

Your GP, Medical specialist or health care worker can refer you to this clinic.

What to expect

You will receive a letter from the Fitness to Drive Medical Clinic confirming the date and time of your appointment as well as your legal obligations.

You must not drive to this appointment. This is a medical clinic, and you will not be tested on your driving ability.

A registered nurse will provide a consultation to you which is followed by a consultation with the doctor.

We will send a letter with the outcomes of the assessment to the road transport authority following your appointment.

The road transport authority are the final decision makers about your fitness to drive.

We will provide you with an alternative appointment time if you cannot make your initial appointment. A suspension of your driver’s licence may occur at the discretion of the Road Transport Authority.
