The Adolescent Day Program is a day program for young people under the age of 18 (12 – 18 and still enrolled in school) who have a mental health vulnerability and require support for their mental health.

About this service

The Adolescent Day Program is a voluntary four-week group program that operates three days a week (Monday to Wednesday) from 9.30am to 3.30pm, that focuses on helping young people to learn and develop skills to improve their mental health and wellbeing.

The Adolescent Day Program is staffed by a multidisciplinary team that includes a psychologist, occupational therapists, social workers, music and creative arts therapists, exercise physiologist and allied health assistants.

Who we care for

We care for young persons aged between 12 and 17 (18 year old persons still enrolled in school are also accepted), who have:

  • may have recently been admitted or presented to Canberra Hospital or Calvary Public Hospital Bruce for mental health reasons and who need intensive follow up
  • may already be supported by the CAMHS service , and be at risk of hospital presentation due to a deterioration in mental health
  • live in the Australian Capital Territory
  • are willing to engage voluntarily with the program.

How to access this service

Referrals are accepted from the CAMHS Adolescent Intensive Home Treatment Team and CAMHS Community Teams.

What to expect

Young people attending the program engage in a wide range of evidence-based group therapeutic activities including:

  • cooking
  • movement
  • music
  • art
  • psychoeducation focusing on development of coping skills.

As well as attending groups, we have weekly check in sessions with an allocated key worker. Key workers help to connect you with relevant supports and develop safety and care plans in collaboration with the young person and their family.

Transport to and from the program is not provided.
