Angiography uses X-rays to view your body's blood vessels. The X-rays provided by an angiography are called angiograms.
Our Angiography suites provide specialised minimally invasive surgeries using needles and X-rays to guide the Doctor. We operate on all parts of the body except the heart.
About this service
We perform various angiographic procedures including angioplasty (a procedure used to open blocked arteries using a balloon catheter) and stents for blood vessels other than the heart.
We also provide 24 hours a day, 7 days a week services for emergencies such as stroke.
Who we care for
Our Angiography department performs procedures for people in:
- The emergency department
- Inpatients (people who are admitted to hospital)
- Outpatients (people who are only visiting the hospital for their procedure).
How to access this service
Outpatients need a doctor’s referral that requests an angiographic procedure, in order to get a booking for Angiography.
Your specialist will contact us to organise for you to access our service. We will contact you with booking information and dates.
Alternatively you can call our Medical Imaging department on (02) 5124 2159 or email your referral and details to medical.imaging@act.gov.au.
What to expect
We provide priority service to life-threatening emergencies. This can increase wait times for people requiring less urgent procedures.
Our staff will call you to confirm your outpatient appointment as the appointment date approaches. We will give you any specific instructions for your appointment.
Depending on the type of procedure you’re having, you may be required to stay at the hospital. Our team will advise you of this beforehand.
