ACT Equipment Scheme (ACTES)

We supply a range of equipment to eligible people in the ACT community to help people live safely at home.

About this service

We provide equipment, aids and appliances to eligible people in the ACT who have a life-long or long-term disability.

This equipment includes, but is not limited to:

• Mobility equipment
• Wheelchair
• Hospital bed
• Custom footwear
• Medical grade footwear
• Wigs
• Commode
• Continence aids
• Home Enteral Nutrition (HEN) equipment
• Shower stool or chair
• Over toilet frame
• Seat walker
• Specialised seating
• Over bed table
• Compression garment
• Speech aid
• Bath board
• Foot orthoses.

Who we care for

We provide equipment to people who:

• are a permanent resident of Australia
• have lived in the ACT for at least six months
• have had a permanent disability for more than two years
• hold a current Centrelink Pension or Low-Income Health Care Card in their name. Please note, this does not include the Senior Health Care Card (SHC) or a Mobility Allowance (MO).

We cannot provide equipment to people who:

• receive the equipment through a Department of Health Home Care Package
• receive the equipment from other government funded schemes including the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
• claim the cost of the aid or equipment back through a private health fund insurance policy.

Your primary therapist may be your:

• Nurse
• Occupational therapist
• Physiotherapist
• Podiatrist
• Prosthetist / Orthotist.

How to access this service

You can apply to be part of this scheme by asking your primary health therapist, your GP or specialist to complete the ACTES application form. Your health care provider should have a copy of the form.
