Position overview
The Assistant Director of Nursing, Professional Pathways manages the Clinical Placement Office and supports the Director of Nursing, Professional Pathways. The Clinical Placement Office is responsible for the coordination and governance of clinical and non-clinical placements across Canberra Health Services and the ACT Health and the Community Services Directorate. The Professional Pathways portfolio includes professional workforce strategy, workforce policy and advice, nursing education and professional development, research, staff wellbeing and the Nursing Transition to Practice Program. The purpose of this role is to provide strategic and operational leadership in supporting the future and current health workforce.
Key responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
Under the broad direction of the Director of Nursing Professional Pathways, you will:
- Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of workforce, education and professional pathway initiatives that align with Canberra Health Services' strategic priorities and organisational objectives.
- Demonstrate high level leadership and management of the Clinical Placement Office, using sound business skills and knowledge of governance, risk management and progressive quality improvement processes.
- Effectively manage the budget and resources of the Clinical Placement Office.
- Oversee the management and negotiation of deeds and schedules with education and health care providers.
- Provide high level operational and strategic advice to senior management and stakeholders to support the achievement of planned outcomes.
- Analyse and report on complex data sets, including the development of quantitative and qualitative reports from evaluations to inform evidence based strategic decision making.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications
Specific qualifications include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Tertiary qualification in nursing
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Desirable
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
- Tertiary qualification related to health leadership / management and/or education.
Experience
Specific qualifications include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Extensive, diverse experience working professionally as a Registered Nurse. With a minimum of 5 years post graduate experience.
Desirable
- Experience in academic research, quality improvement and knowledge translation activities.
- Prior extensive experience in education, training, clinical placement programs or workforce development.
- Prior experience managing staff and financial resources.
Prior to commencement
Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances.
- Pre-employment National Police Check.

- Proven strong oral and written communication skills including high level liaison, negotiation and interpersonal skills, which facilitate productive work relationships with staff, internal and external stakeholders.
