Position overview
The Intensive Care/Coronary Care Unit Technical Officer (TO), in conjunction with the Assistant Director of Nursing (ICU/CCU ADON), oversees stores and equipment management within ICU and Cardiology. The TO is responsible for the direction, co-ordination and procurement of equipment used in ICU and Cardiology to enable effective efficient and high-quality care to patients. The TO role provides technical support and acts as a resource within the critical care environment to effectively and efficiently manage, utilise and/ or procure resources through cost centre monitoring, stock control and strategic planning to enable effective and efficient, high-quality care to patients.
Key responsibilities
Under limited direction of the ICU/CCU ADON, you will:
- Implement inventory management systems, including conducting regular inventory audits, forecasting demand and replenishing stock as needed. Generate reports on procurement activities, inventory levels, and stock movements.
- Facilitate evaluation and cost-effective purchase of equipment, collaborating with relevant stakeholders to identify needs, conducting thorough research on available options while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and policies governing procurement and inventory management.
- Review purchase requisitions and process purchase orders in compliance with organisational policies.
- Responsible for recording and completing day-to-day availability, cleaning and ensuring that all ICU/CCU equipment is maintained through appropriate checks and regular maintenance.
- Liaise with Biomedical Engineering to assist with the evaluation and installation of ICU/CCU equipment as well as with any technical issues affecting ICU/CCU equipment.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.
Competencies
- Responsible for day-to-day availability, cleaning and good working order of Critical Care equipment.
- Ensure a wide range of Critical Care equipment has appropriate checks, operator maintenance and performance verification as prescribed by the manufacturer and/or hospital Biomedical Engineering Department.
- Maintain an ongoing equipment replacement program.
- Participate in equipment trials, new equipment role out.
- Facilitate the evaluation and cost-effective purchase of Critical Care equipment.
- Application of relevant standards and protocols in electro-medical equipment.
- Liaise with the Biomedical department about equipment servicing, trouble shooting and ongoing break fix and maintenance.
- Ability to efficiently maintain stock levels and consumable items.
- Sound computer skills and maintain database information and undertake research and project tasks as required.
- Contribution to on-going education and updating of colleagues on the use of Critical Care equipment.

Essential
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience managing inventory levels and equipment maintenance in a health environment.
- Excellent communication and liaison skills
- Possesses knowledge, understanding and commitment to principles of risk management, patient and staff safety, customer service.
- Computer literacy
Desirable
- Prior experience with biomedical equipment and technology would be highly desirable
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, and all other related frameworks.
Prior to commencement
- Pre-employment National Police Check.
- Current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.
