Position overview
The Chief Financial Officer Division is led by the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) who reports to the Chief Executive officer of Canberra Health Services. The CFO Division is responsible for the development and maintenance of budgets, financial management, and for providing strong operational finance and performance reporting analysis across the health service. The six sub-units within the CFO Division include the Financial Operations and Support Unit, Revenue and Financial Services, Patients Accounts, Health Information Unit and Procurement & Supply.
The positions report to the Assistant Director of Supply Operations, in the Procurement and Supply unit of Canberra Health Services.
The positions are primarily located at the Canberra Hospital and the CHS Distribution Centre and may be required to work periodically at either site.
Key Responsibilities
Working autonomously and with limited supervision:
Operational efficiency, quality assurance and compliance:
- Receipt all non-stock items delivered to the Hospital campus against a corresponding purchase order and despatch to the correct delivery point.
- Maintain a safe and efficient operational work area to ensure all business units can access and utilise the dock area effectively.
- Maintain continuous operational improvement initiatives (e.g. 5S / Standard 3).
- Collaborate with Assistant Directors regarding workflow constraints, bottlenecks and workload variations that may impede achieving daily operational targets.
Unit improvements and education:
- Adhere to the requirements of CHS and Supply Operations policies, procedures, safe work method statements, work instructions and standard operating procedures including safe handling of chemicals, lifting, pulling, and pushing of loads.
- Assist in restocking, clean stowage areas and shelves.
- Participate in education and training including on the job competency assessments.
- Displaying and promoting behaviours that advocate CHS core values and working collaboratively with peers to balance workloads.
- Be available for the Supply Operations afterhours on-call service as rostered Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.
Competencies
Specific competencies include but are not limited to the following.
- Advanced inventory control knowledge to verify purchase orders and ensure accurate receipt and dispatch.
- Sound computer literacy and proficiency in using inventory platforms.
- Knowledge of maintaining a safe and efficient dock ensuring compliance with WHS and Infection Control guidelines.
- Decision making abilities to identify and rectify bottlenecks mitigating constraints.
- Sound communication skills to escalate issues and propose solutions.
- Commitment to hygiene and safety standards and participation in routine cleaning practices.
- Consistency and reliability in maintaining clean, organised, and functional workspaces including but not limited to trolleys, and benches.
- Understanding of manual handling techniques to prevent injury and knowledge of chemical safety protocols including PPE and SDS.
- Active engagement in professional development, including performance reviews and training.

Qualifications
Specific qualifications include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Unrestricted Class C drivers’ licence.
- Current forklift licence.
- Excellent numeracy skills.
Desirable
- Rigid truck licence (minimum MR).
Experience
Specific experience includes but is not limited to the following.
Essential
- Minimum of 3 years Supply Operations experience.
Desirable
- Basic Microsoft Office Word and Excel skills.
Prior to commencement
Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:
- Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.

- Proven knowledge of warehousing and distribution practices and procedures within a health environment.
- Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the management of receipt, stowage, issue, and distribution of goods including sterile goods.
- Demonstrated ability to utilise computer software systems including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively, coordinate team members, and communicate effectively with CHS staff and customers.
- Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, Work Health and Safety and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
