Position overview

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for managing a number of major capital projects, ensuring that they are delivered on time and within budget, with minimal impact to clinical services and hospital operations in a live hospital environment. This will include a range of construction projects involving demolition works, construction of new health facilities, refurbishment of existing health facilities and major equipment procurements. A key element will be engaging and negotiating with internal and external stakeholders to deliver agreed project outcomes and manage stakeholder expectations, including CHS’s infrastructure delivery partner, Infrastructure Canberra.

Key Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

  1. Lead the planning and development of new capital projects, ensuring project objectives, scope, budgets, and outcomes are clearly defined, and aligned with stakeholder expectations.
  2. Deliver and manage approved capital projects, ensuring that project documentation is developed, and scope, time, cost, safety, and quality aspects of projects are monitored and controlled.
  3. Manage the procurement activities associated with the delivery of capital projects, including the preparation of consultant engagement briefs and tender packages for design and construction activities, ensuring that feedback is sought from various stakeholders, and compliance with all relevant standards, codes, policies, and procedures.
  4. Monitor capital projects, ensuring that milestones and performance indicators are met, issues/risks are proactively identified with appropriate mitigation strategies implemented, and stakeholders are informed.
  5. Manage project budget allocation and expenditure, including preparation of monthly financial status reports for capital projects.
  6. Maintain positive working relationships with project stakeholders, ensuring they are consulted and involved in project design and delivery coordination, including regular information updates, to deliver agreed project outcomes and minimise impacts to clinical services.
  7. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications

Essential

Positions classified as an Infrastructure Officer require the occupant to hold recognised qualifications and/or experience in one or more of the following fields:

  • Hold a relevant professional qualification in Engineering, Architecture or Project Management or accreditation with a professional body recognised within Australia; or
  • Hold a relevant building degree; or
  • Have significant building or infrastructure knowledge and/or project management experience.

  3. Proven high level stakeholder management skills, including the ability to engage with internal and external stakeholder groups, through well-developed facilitation, interpersonal, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills.
  4. Knowledge of government procurement and budget processes, or demonstrated ability to quickly acquire this knowledge, for project, and contract management.
  5. Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, Work Health and Safety and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
