CHIC is looking for a dynamic and motivated officer to join the NDIS Support Unit to focus on improving NDIS related consumer support and management and the NDIS health service interface.

The position provides NDIS leadership for inpatients requiring NDIS activity across all Mental Health, Justice health, Alcohol and Drugs Services (MHJHADS) inpatient services, as well as inpatients of North Canberra Hospital (NCH). This role supports MHJHADS and NCH team members with support and advice relating to the NDIS and NDIS processes, facilitates NDIS related problem solving, and coordinates the flow of information between MHJHADS and NCH service teams and the NDIA’s Health Interface Branch as a CHS NDIS health lead.

Additionally, the role uses their enhanced knowledge of psychosocial disability and consumer needs, alongside the other CHS NDIS leads and the NDIS Support Unit Allied Health and nursing officers in scoping, developing, coordinating and delivering activities designed to optimize NDIS consumer management across the CHS care continuum and network.

Key Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Provide support and advice to CHS MHJAHDS and NCH services and teams to enable optimal and timely outcomes for inpatients requiring NDIS related activity, or in the prevention of admission for a NDIS only related reason.
  2. Act as the primary interface between CHS and the NDIA Health Interface Branch for MHJHADS and NCH patients, facilitating escalation, negotiation, information exchange and resolution of complex NDIS-related matters to support timely patient outcomes
  3. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, coordinating multidisciplinary activities and ensuring communication is timely, transparent and responsive to support effective service delivery and project outcomes.
  4. Provide education and capacity building within MHJHADS and NCH teams specifically, but also supporting other areas of CHS as required.
  5. Lead the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of improvement activities aimed to advance the processes and management of NDIS clients within CHS services, particularly those with psychosocial disability, with an awareness of how these projects link in with broader system needs.
  6. Develop recommendations and progress  activities based on data analysis, service review, and feedback, with the  completion of any necessary communication, strategies and reporting to reflect  the progress of projects and activities undertaken.
  7. Prepare other written communications as  needed related to these tasks.
  8. Utilise different health information systems, computer-based applications, and other resources to identify appropriate data and process options for improving NDIS consumer management and NDIS service operations. Be flexible and innovative in utilising systems to achieve operational outcomes as part of the project.
  9. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.

Essential

  • Hold a current drivers licence

Health Professional Officer Level 3

  • Tertiary Qualification (or equivalent) in an Allied health profession.
  • Hold registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or be registered under the Working for Vulnerable People Act, as required for your profession.

Registered Nure Level 2

  • Tertiary Qualification in Nursing.
  • Hold registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or be registered under the Working for Vulnerable People Act, as required for your profession.

Desirable

Administrative Services Officer Level 6

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working professionally in the healthcare setting across a number of fields.

Experience

Essential

  • Knowledge, skills and/or experience working with, or understanding the experience of disability for people living with psychosocial disability.
  • Knowledge, skills and/or experience working with, or understanding the NDIS.
  • Proactive with strong organisational skills, able to work independently and within a team environment.

Registered Nurse Level 2:

  • A minimum 4 year full-time equivalent experience as a Registered Nurse.

Health Professional Officer Level 3

  • A recommended minimum of three years’ experience in their profession.

Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:

  • Pre-employment National Police Check.
  • Current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act2011is required. (for Health Professionals and Administration Officers)
  • Attain NDIS worker screening through working with vulnerable people registration even if a registered health professional.
  • Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
  • Comply with CHS credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for allied health professionals.
