Position overview
The Director of Business Relationships leads and coordinates Canberra Health Services cross-directorate engagement on data and government business matters. The role supports the Senior Director to ensure that Canberra Health Services meets its obligations to Government, the Legislative Assembly, and partner ACT Public Service Directorates through high-quality, accurate, and timely information.
The position provides strategic oversight and operational coordination of government business processes involving data, including Statement of Performance reporting, Budget processes, Questions on Notice, committee hearings, Executive and Ministerial briefings, and whole-of-government information requests. The role also supports media and public communications by coordinating data and evidence-based responses.
The Director acts as the primary interface between the Decision Support Unit - Business Intelligence Unit and key stakeholders, ensuring alignment between operational data, governance requirements, and Government priorities.
Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following. You will:
Government Business Support:
- Direct and coordinate support for government briefing processes, Questions on Notice, and clearance requirements.
- Provide high-quality, accurate, and timely advice and narrative development to support ACT Government business.
- Ensure consistency and compliance with relevant standards, policy frameworks, risk management practices, and reporting obligations.
External Reporting and Media Requests:
- Oversee preparation and clearance of external reporting, ensuring attention to detail, accuracy, and identification of potential risks.
- Coordinate responses to media requests and other external data provision, working collaboratively with relevant CHS and ACT Government stakeholders.
- Leverage expertise in clinical patient systems, including the Digital Health Record, to support robust and accurate reporting.
Process Improvement:
- Lead initiatives to strengthen government business processes and enhance the efficiency of the Decision Support Unit.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation in the delivery of government business support, including the use of data and insights from clinical patient systems.
Leadership and Team Contribution:
- Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to staff within the Decision Support Unit.
- Promote a culture of accountability and risk awareness across the team.
- Contribute to the strategic direction of the Unit as part of the senior leadership team.
- Undertake other duties as directed, consistent with the classification.

Essential
- Qualifications in a health-related area with higher knowledge, or extensive health knowledge acquired either through formal studies or work experience.

- Project management methodologies as applied to the health setting.

- Experience in developing frameworks to support performance and decision making in an operational setting.
- Experience in strategic reporting and risk management in an operational environment.
- Experience managing a team with diverse functions.

- Use of SQL or other programming language to assist in data extraction and analysis.
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.

CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.
