The Financial Management Unit within the Chief Financial Officer Division delivers high‑quality, consistent financial and business management support to the Divisions of Canberra Health Services, working closely with key stakeholders. The Unit is responsible for developing and managing budgets and plays a critical role in monitoring and enhancing performance against agreed indicators and targets.

Assistant Finance Managers provide operational support to Finance Business Partners in a range of services such as budget preparation, reporting, forecasting, analysis, and financial and business support to Divisions within the Canberra Health Services Directorate.

As the primary contact for these Divisions for financial support, the Assistant Finance Manager will be flexible in meeting changing priorities and adaptable in working with a variety of different stakeholder groups.

Please note this is an 8-month position with a possibility of extension up to 12 months and/or permanency from this recruitment process.

Key Responsibilities

Under limited direction of the Assistant Director/Finance Business Partner, you will perform business management support and advice to the Divisions of Canberra Health Services:

  1. Assist with journal preparation, month end reporting, forecasting, and analysis.
  2. Liaising with different business units within CHS to acquire, analyse, and present data to be used for financial reporting.
  3. Use financial systems to extract financial and FTE reports, action journals, and budget adjustments.
  4. Assist with any internal or external reporting and costings for business cases.
  5. Streamlining current processes with improved use of financial and other systems and excel spreadsheets.
  6. Provide administrative and financial management support to Finance Business Partners and Directors.
  7. Provide cost centre managers/financial delegates with operational advice and support to meet their financial obligations.
  8. Provide high quality consistent customer service.
  9. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Tertiary qualifications in accounting, finance, or a related discipline.
  • Strong working knowledge of finance and accounting system such as Oracle and TM1.

Desirable

  • Membership or active progress toward professional accreditation with a recognised Australian accounting body such as CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants is highly desirable.
  • Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.

Experience

Essential

  • 1+ years of public accounting and/or private industry experience with knowledge of accounting and finance areas.

Desirable

  • At least one year of professional experience in a hospital or healthcare environment is required.

Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:

  • Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.

  5. A high degree of proficiency in the use of financial reporting tools, database and spreadsheet application software with experience in providing high quality financial reports.
