You can now use MyDHR to record your access needs and, if you choose to, identify as a person with disability.

This means we can better understand what you need to access care to the same extent as other people – to feel safe, supported and included in your care, without having to repeat yourself at every appointment.

You can record these details yourself or with a support person through MyDHR or ask a Canberra Health Services team member to update your records.

You don't need to identify as having a disability, mental illness or chronic condition to ask for help. Everyone has the right to health care that meets their needs.

What are access needs?

‘Reasonable adjustments,’ otherwise known as ‘access needs,’ are any change to our approach or processes to make sure a person can receive equal care. This may include changes to how we communicate, or the environment in which we provide services.

Reasonable adjustments could include booking a longer appointment, having access to the right equipment, or receiving information in a format that works for you.

Asking about your needs and supporting people to have equal access to health care reflects our commitment to provide person-centred care that recognises the needs of individuals, carers and families.

For more information on recording your access needs visit: How to record your needs.
