Swabtember returns this September, offering free chlamydia testing to all 15 to 29 year olds visiting our Walk-in Centres. Last year's campaign saw a 185% increase in testing rates, helping identify and treat cases that might otherwise have gone undetected.
Chlamydia is the most commonly reported STI among young Australians and often shows no symptoms. If left untreated, it can lead to serious long-term health issues including infertility.
'The beauty of Swabtember is that it makes testing accessible by integrating it into regular Walk-in Centre visits,' says Advanced Practice Nurse, Karen Butcher. 'It's quick, confidential and potentially life changing.'
Testing is available at all Walk-in Centres throughout September. No separate consultation needed - simply mention your interest during your visit.
For ongoing free testing of all sexually transmitted infections (STIs) you can visit the Canberra Sexual Health Centre.
