Early pregnancy service
27 March 2023
A new Early Pregnancy Service has opened at Centenary Hospital for Women and Children. The unit is for women and pregnant people with complications in early pregnancy.
There are more than 500 people who visit Canberra Health Services each year for early pregnancy complications. Until now, no dedicated facility has existed to provide this type of care in a private, healing space.
The unit enables overnight stays and offers separate treatment spaces and a waiting area for pregnant people and their families. It also comes with a new model of care.
Canberra Health Services worked with clinicians, consumers and carers to design the unit, which was added to the $50 million expansion project already underway at Centenary Hospital for Women and Children.
A new 15-bed Antenatal and Gynaecology Unit is also now open. It is located beside the Early Pregnancy Service.
