13 May 2022

Congratulations to our very own Rebekah Ogilvie, who was today announced as the ACT Nurse of the Year for 2022.

Rebekah works as a Registered Nurse Practitioner and oversaw a response to a COVID-19 outbreak in social housing that evolved in response to the needs of the residents.

Rebekah advocated for the establishment of a specialised team to address the needs of the community and to assist in the containment of the spread of the disease through supported health care.

Throughout the process of providing this advanced yet vital type of care, Rebekah’s strong and inclusive style ensured that everyone on the team felt supported and encouraged.

When asked if Rebekah thought she would ever be named ACT Nurse of the Year, she was quick to jump in and say ‘No, no way’.

‘Nurses are very humble and we’re often not very good at recognising our achievements. We often do quiet work, and important work, but my feeling is that we should be more vocal and put ourselves out there more.

‘We all work really hard and our craft is the backbone of health system and the way I approach any interaction with our other health colleagues is that I can’t do what they do, and they can’t do what I do, and that’s what makes it really great.

‘For me, working in the COVID-19 outreach team, I got to work alongside other health professionals that I wouldn’t normally get to, and it was great to bounce ideas off one another and see their different ways of doing things. It was one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life.'
